February 8, 2010 - Here we are celebrating Kristian's 1st birthday!!! Look at all his presents from us! Kristian couldn't keep his hands out of the bags even when I put his stuff on the couch! We ended up opening his gifts early in the afternoon, so he could go ahead and enjoy them.
We got him an activity center, Melissa & Doug sound puzzle with a variety of transportation vehicles, a wooden name puzzle, a Fisher Price toy mailbox, toy animal cars, a big orange lion (its roar scares him a bit but he'll still kiss it!), big orange ball, a big SpongeBob balloon, and a Cabbage Patch buddy. Of course, he got new clothes and money put into his savings too!
Kristian and Kai had fun playing and later in the evening we had cake! Since we usually prefer homemade cakes, we picked a Wilton race car cake pan for Kristian. While I played with the kids, Chris baked a yellow cake and decorated it with a little bit of Kai's help!

Kristian's been ready to dig in!
He's ready to grab while we pose!
Kristian loves Trixie too!
On the count of 3, one...two...and Kailani blows it out!
Icing..
Finally, the cake is all too himself, although in bite-size pieces!
I'm a Big Boy! I want my own plate and utensil, too!
Our baby is growing up, just like big sister! He went from taking five steps a foot at a time, and now he's even more confident and taking about 10-12 steps to get anywhere!! He's nearly a full-blown walking toddler! He's also an expert crawler and is comfortable switching from crawling to walking!
Wanting more independence is new for him, too. Earlier this week he didn't want to be fed, but instead wanted to pick up food off of my plate. Soon we realized that he wanted to graduate from his baby bowls to his own plate! Barely using a bottle, this boy is drinking with help from a regular cup and will soon get used to a sippy cup.
Although we use some sign language with him, saying hi and bye is the easiest for him. He flails his arms around for the others! He is more and more vocal, tries to copy our sounds, and lets us know how he feels or wants through body language. He'll lunge toward or reach for something we wants or cry when we can't figure out what he needs. With other babies and children, this boy is super friendly and will give them hugs and kisses!
Time really just flew by! Soon it will be Kailani's 7th birthday!!!
Here are some clips of us celebrating Kristian's 1st birthday with cake and presents!
