Sea Turtle Release

Waiting for Shredder's release

June 26th - Jet noise. Sunshine. Sand. Waves. And, a rare and critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle named Shredder. :) We spent the early morning hours with the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and the Stranding Response Team as they released Shredder, a sea turtle recently rehabilitated from a shark bite, back into the ocean.

Sea Turtle Display, part of the Washed Ashore Project and exhibit at the VA Aquarium

The Navy placed a tracking device on his back

Onlookers get to see Shredder before he journeys back into the ocean

Video of Shredder's release.
Once Shredder made it to the water, Kristian and I went into the water to see him off!
