August 4, 2011 - Originally, we wanted to go to Busch Gardens with our family, but apparently, they couldn't wait and went over the 4th of July weekend. We knew Kailani would enjoy it much more if her cousins could be with us, so instead we planned on visiting Washington D.C. with them. My sisters and nieces went during the cherry blossom festival earlier this year. My nieces said they didn't enjoy themselves. Chris was shocked, but then it sounded like they spent more time around the monuments and restaurants and maybe not so much in the cool Smithsonian museums.
It was a Thursday and we had only enough time to make a quick day-trip to D.C. Despite the short stay, our intent was to show the kids it is possible to enjoy the nation's capitol, see some monuments, and visit the more kid-friendly Smithsonian museums. We didn't leave as early as we planned, so we arrived in D.C. just in time to visit what Chris refers to as the "cool" museums (they happen to be his favorites), the Air & Space Museum and the Natural History Museum.
