Leaving Kenefick Park

July 5, 2011 – Over the holiday weekend, we stayed within the area. Chris had four days off and most of the time was spent relaxing at home. We also spent some time with our friends, the Farnum’s & the Daugherty’s, and had a great time at the Daugherty’s BBQ - Thank you, we had fun and the food was delicious! =)

On Saturday, we wanted to visit the train exhibits, so we went to Kenefick Park in Omaha. It's a free outdoor exhibit located next to the Lauritzen Gardens. You can climb up the stairs behind the parking lot to view “two of the greatest locomotives ever to power Union Pacific Railroad.” These are the same trains that motorists see perched on top of the hill overlooking I-80. “On grand display are Centennial No. 6900 - the largest and most powerful diesel-electric locomotive ever built - and Big Boy No. 4023 - the world's largest steam locomotive.”
